Ive found it facinating how car commercials changed the main MPG number they promoted before gas went over $4 a gallon as city miles. They leased a few (at a loss) to those that could afford it. Denmark did that with Wind Power and now most of their energy comes from wind rather than oil, natural gas, or coal.
