Goodenough , one of the inventors of the lithium-ion battery, died on 25 June at age 100. He probably is best known for developing the lithium cobalt oxide cathode in 1980—which became the foundation for Sony’s first commercial lithium-ion battery in 1991. His first was lithium cobalt oxide.

In its new Lithium Outlook to 2030 report, Roskill notes that the prolonged downward trend for lithium compound and mineral concentrate prices has caused a difficult environment for many lithium producers since 2018. In 2019, monthly average lithium carbonate prices fell 36% between January and December.

More than 1,000 units of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro low-floor electric bus have rolled off the production line in Mannheim in the nearly five years since its start of series production at the end of 2018. In 2018, the eCitaro was initially launched as a solo bus with a battery capacity of up to 243 kWh.

Toshiba Corporation, Sojitz Corporation, and CBMM have entered into a joint development agreement for the commercialization of next generation lithium-ion batteries using niobium titanium oxide (NTO) as the anode material. One of the major requirements for rechargeable battery development is greater energy density and faster charging.

For the first time in China, Johnson Controls unveiled its Lithium-ion automotive battery for Advanced Start-Stop vehicles at Auto Shanghai 2015.
