When it first launched in 2018, the Hyundai KONA Electric was one of the first fully-electric compact SUVs on the market. For 2024, Hyundai has given the KONA Electric a complete redesign, positioning it to continue as one of the brand’s flagship electric vehicles.

An “i-PEDAL” driving mode enables one-pedal operation, while the regenerative System automatically adjusts regenerative braking levels based on traffic conditions. Active grille shutters help reduce aerodynamic drag when closed.
Exterior Design
On the outside, the 2024 KONA Electric maintains a similar overall profile to the gas-powered KONA models. However, it features several distinctive EV design cues. For example, the closed-off front grille area helps improve aerodynamics, contributing to the KONA Electric’s slippery 0.27 drag coefficient. Additionally, other unique styling elements include a “pixelated seamless horizon lamp”, pixel graphics, and the availability of vibrant color options like Neoteric Yellow and Mirage Green.
Interior and Cargo Space
Inside, the new KONA Electric trades the conventional tachometer for a digital driver display integrated alongside the standard 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Furthermore, higher trims get a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster as well. Consequently, the center console has an open design and a rotational cupholder layout to provide more storage space.
Moreover, Hyundai increased the KONA Electric’s dimensions for 2024, translating to more interior room. Passenger space sees increases in headroom, legroom, and shoulder room compared to the previous generation. Performance and Driving
The KONA Electric is powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. With the smaller battery pack, it produces 133 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, models with the larger 64.8 kWh battery get a more potent 201 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque from the motor.
To help maximize driving range, the KONA Electric includes efficiency features like one-pedal driving mode, regenerative braking system, and active grille shutters. Likewise, unique to the Electric model is a “frunk” or front trunk storage area where the gas engine would typically be.
Meanwhile, the suspension tuning aims to provide a balance of comfort and responsive handling dynamics. The KONA Electric rides on a MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear setup.
Advanced Tech and Safety
Technology takes a big step forward in the 2024 KONA Electric. For instance, dual 12.3-inch displays, navigation, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a Bose premium audio system, and over-the-air update capability are all available.
On the safety front, the new KONA Electric can be equipped with Hyundai’s latest driver assistance systems. These include Remote Smart Parking Assist, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with junction turning capability.
