The Port of Los Angeles and its partners rolled out five new hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and introduced two hydrogen fueling stations. Planning for S2S began in 2018. North America’s leading seaport by container volume and cargo value, the Port of Los Angeles facilitated $259 billion in trade during 2020.

Six trucking firms operating in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are deploying trucks powered by Cummins Westport (CWI) near-zero ISX12N engines ( earlier post ), and fueled with Clean Energy Fuels Corp.’s The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach provided funding for two additional near-zero trucks.

The 2018 DERA grants awarded to California will fund the following projects: California Air Resources Board (CARB) received $435,149 to replace 5 heavy-duty school buses with all-electric alternatives throughout California. The project will also replace one diesel sweeper at the Port of Los Angeles with two cleaner Tier 4 engines.

Since 2018, CARB has operated the Zero-Emission Equipment Roadshow, which loans the equipment free of cost for 3 weeks to municipalities and other entities that express interest.

The study, forthcoming in the American Economic Review , found that polluting emissions from US manufacturing fell by 60% between 1990 and 2008—a period in which manufacturing output grew significantly—primarily because manufacturers adopted cleaner production methods in tandem with increasingly strict environmental regulation.

The recent procurement of both CNG buses and engines will help the agency reduce its current NO x emissions by more than 90% in 2018. Serving Santa Monica and the Los Angeles area since 1928, Big Blue Bus operates a fleet of almost 200 vehicles transporting more than 61,000 passengers daily across a 51-square mile service area.
