These include 12 Peterbilt all-electric Class 8 Model 579 day cab tractors and three Model 520 refuse trucks. Funding for the Peterbilt 520 deployment was provided by the California Energy Commission.

Cummins will partner with Peterbilt Motors Company, a division of PACCAR to develop and demonstrate technologies under the US Department of Energy (DOE) SuperTruck II program. Cummins and Peterbilt teamed together for SuperTruck I, first demonstrating more than 50% BTE and analytically defining technologies needed to achieve 55% BTE.

In 2017, Meritor made a strategic investment in Transpower. Earlier this month, Werner Enterprises, a premier transportation and logistics provider, announced it is testing a 2019 Peterbilt 579 EV Class 8 electric truck for a year on a dedicated account in Southern California. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
