China planning 120km test drive for autonomous vehicles in 2013; 2,400 km test to come

China is planning a 120 km test drive from Beijing to Tianjin for autonomous vehicles in 2013, according to the National Natural Science Foundation. The vehicles are designed to perceive their environment, process it and respond accordingly with the help of GPS, ultrasonic radar and a variety of sensors.
