GM introducing US/Canada version of 2013 Chevrolet Spark at LA Auto Show

GM will introduce the 2013 Chevrolet Spark minicar at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. In the United States and Canada, the Spark will be powered by a 1.2L dual-overhead cam four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing that delivers an estimated 85 horsepower (63 kW) with torque of 81.7 lb-ft (111 N·m).

The dual-overhead cam 1. 2L features technologies such as dual continuous variable cam phasing, electronically controlled thermostat and low-friction engine oil.

The engine is mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission for competitive city and highway fuel economy. A four-speed automatic transmission will also be available.

GM is touting the four-passenger, five-door hatch as the only car in its segment to offer a seven-inch color touch screen radio capable of displaying smart phone-based navigation, media and contacts for hands-free calling.

The MyLink infotainment system, featuring the personalized connectivity of Pandora and Stitcher internet radio, will be offered on 1LT and 2LT models when Spark goes on sale in the United States and Canada in mid-2012.

The original version of the Spark is already on sale in Europe, Asia, Australia, Mexico and South America.

The 1.2L engine might be a decent replacement for the VOLT's genset ICE. Sounds like GM is trying to entice buyers with the 7" touch screen. Hey, if people want little cars - this looks viable.

Maybe by the time battery prices make little BVs competitive, little cars like this will be commonplace and acceptable to more people.

Also I understand that the 1014 Spark is targeted at the iPhone 6 - in capability and price, but you can not only talk to friends, you can ride with them.
