Researchers at the US Geological Survey (USGS) and its partners have developed a new methodology to identify which mineral commodities important to US manufacturing are at greatest risk to supply disruption. The methodology evaluated the global supply of and US demand for 52 mineral commodities for the years 2007 to 2016.

Sayona Mining and Piedmont Lithium restart commercial spodumene concentrate production at NAL

North American lithium producer Sayona Mining and Piedmont Lithium successfully restarted commercial spodumene concentrate production at the jointly-owned North American Lithium (NAL) project in Québec ( earlier post ). Sayona is targeting 226,000 metric tons per year of annual production with first commercial shipments expected in Q3 2023.

Toshiba to supply inverters for Fords HEVs and PHEVs from 2012

The Ford Motor Company has selected Toshiba Corporation to supply automotive inverters for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Ford plans to start mass production of new models of both kinds of vehicle in 2012. The automotive inverters will be supplied to Ford with the motors as a set.

EIA: North Dakota oil production reached new high of 770K bpd in 2012; transported by trucks and railroads

North Dakota crude oil production (including lease condensate) averaged an all-time high of 770,000 barrels per day in December 2012, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).
