Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid on market in 2012

Volvo Car Corporation confirmed again that it will begin sales of the V60 Plug-in Hybrid—the results of close cooperation between Volvo Car and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall&mash;in 2012. (Earlier post.)
When powered solely by electricity, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid has a range of up to 50 kilometers (31 miles); the car’s total operating range is up to 1,200 km (746 miles). Carbon dioxide emissions will be an average of 49 grams per kilometer (NEDC EU Combined certification driving cycle) and fuel consumption will be 1.9 liters per 100 km (124 mpg US).
In January 2007, Volvo Car Corporation and Vattenfall AB launched an industrial partnership whose aim was to test and develop plug-in technology. This initiative resulted in the foundation of a jointly owned company: V2 Plug-in-Hybrid Vehicle Partnership HB. Development work has been jointly financed.
The figures are incredible.
I wonder what mpg testers and journalists will actually get and I wonder how much it will cost.

The 12kWh battery will lose capacity faster than a Leaf or Volt if run in AER for 30M. And with a 2.4-liter five-cylinder turbodiesel coupled with a 70-hp electric motor it will be pretty heavy. Still, a hybrid diesel is great for Europe. Like other first gen EVs it will cost more than most ICE only cars - probably in the same bracket as Volt and Leaf around $35-40k.
We wish them lots of luck actually producing this car which they have yet to do.

The price tag may be well over $50k.
