The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is now accepting applications through the state’s $6 million Alternative Fuel Incentive Grant program (AFIG) for fuel or fuel-saving projects throughout the state. Projects must begin on or after July 1, 2010, and must be completed within two years.

Existing US policies that stress energy efficiency and alternative fuels, together with higher energy prices, will curb energy consumption growth and shift the energy mix toward renewable fuels, according to the reference case for the Annual Energy Outlook 2010 ( AEO2010 ) released by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Ontario, Canada individuals, businesses, and organizations that purchase or lease a new plug-in hybrid electric or battery electric vehicle after 1 July 2010 may be eligible for a rebate between C$5,000 and C$8,500 (US$4,900-8,300). Rebates will only be made available to the first 10,000 applicants who qualify. Kathleen Wynne.

UPS has purchased another 48 heavy tractor trucks equipped to run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The Westport HD GX engine is certified and compliant to 2010 US Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board emission standards in North America. UPS has contracted with Clean Energy Fuels Corp.

These grants are provided through the Energy Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program. Rand Corporation , based in Santa Monica, will receive $4,474,558 to evaluate the Energy Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program and projects.

The Sandia researchers showed that the key to meeting the RFS2 targets is the fuel price differential between E85 fuel and conventional gasoline (low ethanol blends), so that E85 owners refuel with E85 whenever possible. Relying on consumers to purchase ED85 instead of gasohol is too uncertain of an approach to meeting the mandate.

Green Car Congress attended the Renewable Energy Finance Forum - Wall Street (REFF-Wall Street) conference (23-24 June) sponsored by Euromoney Energy Events and the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE). The renewable energy community may prefer “areas of concern” over the term schism, but significant issues were reiterated.
