The original Ford Taurus first appeared as a 1986 model , going through three generations and nearly 10 million sales (counting the Mercury Sable ) before getting the axe in October of 2006. That made 2007 the final model year for the "real" Taurus, and I've found one of these rare cars in a New Orleans self-service junkyard.

That car was the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line, and I managed to find one in a Denver-area car graveyard recently. Ford launched the Escape Hybrid as a 2005 model (its Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute siblings showed up a bit later), so The General had some catching up to do in the green-car department.

This is the second Mazdaspeed6 I've found in a car graveyard, after a 2007 in a facility near Denver, Colorado. Some knowledgeable junkyard shopper grabbed the engine and transaxle out of this car, perhaps in order to swap it into a platform cousin such as the Mercury Milan. It was a very nervous 2.3-liter
