Chrysler Group US sales up 10% in December, 21% for 2012; FIAT largest gainer

Chrysler Group LLC reported US sales of 152,367 units in December 2012, a 10% increase compared with sales in December 2011 (138,019 units), and the group’s best December sales since 2007. The Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Truck and FIAT brands each recorded significant sales gains during 2012 compared with sales in the previous year.

Chrysler Group LLC reported US sales in May of 166,596 units, an 11% increase year-on-year, and the group’s best May sales since 2007. The Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Compass SUVs each recorded their best sales ever. Eight Chrysler Group vehicles set sales records in the month of May.

Retirement-eligible workers hired before the 2007 union contract can get a $50,000 check for taking the offer, while others with more than a year of service will get smaller amounts. The automaker had already stopped production at its Belvidere, Illinois plant and announced that the Jeep Cherokee would be discontinued shortly after.
