EPA blocks Pebble copper mine in Alaska to protect Bristol Bay salmon ecosystem

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a Final Determination under Section 404(c) of the Clean Water Act (CWA) that blocks the development of Northern Dynasty Mineral’s proposed Pebble copper and gold mining project in Alaska. NDM says that the Pebble deposit is the world’s largest undeveloped copper and gold resource.

TransCanada and ExxonMobil To Work Together on Alaska Gas Pipeline

TransCanada Corporation and ExxonMobil have reached an agreement to work together on an Alaska gas pipeline. In November 2007, TransCanada Alaska and Foothills jointly submitted an application under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA) to build a 4.5 The project has an initial forecasted capital cost of US$26 billion.

EIA: E85 fueling station availability is increasing, but slowly; in 2% of all retail stations

The number of retail fueling stations offering E85 blend (up to 85% ethanol) has grown rapidly since 2007, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). The share of nationwide E85 stations in the five traditional ethanol-producing states of the Midwest fell from 54% in 2007 to 36% in 2013.

EPRI calculates technically recoverable US riverine hydrokinetic potential at 3% of annual electricity demand

The assessment analyzed 71,398 river segments across the 48 contiguous states and additional river segments in Alaska. The results show that the Lower Mississippi region contributes almost half (47.9%) of the technically recoverable resource estimate; Alaska 17.1%, the Pacific Northwest region 9.2%, and, the Ohio region 5.7%.
