Toyota Begins Production of Highlander SUV in China

held a line-off ceremony today for the Highlander SUV, produced on GTMC’s new production line at its plant in Nansha District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. The China-produced Highlander has a 2009 sales target of 20,000 vehicles; the new line will eventually produce 160,000 units per year. Sales of the vehicle in China begin today.

GTMC was established in 2004 as a base for Toyota-brand vehicle production and sales in China. 2 opened with production of the Highlander in May 2009, followed by the Camry Hybrid in April 2010 and the E’Z in June 2011. (GAC), has produced more than 1 million vehicles since the start of production in 2006.
