Kia Motors Corporation revealed details of the next-generation Sorento’s new platform and powertrains. The latest Sorento will be the first SUV to be based on Kia’s new platform when production commences later this year. The new Sorento will make its public debut at the upcoming 2020 Geneva International Motor Show.

When the new upgraded Kia Sorento CUV goes on sale later this year in most markets, it will incorporate changes which include a completely new platform and enhanced powertrains for better fuel economy with lower emissions. Kia has fine-tuned both the Theta II 2.4 GDI gasoline and R2.2 TCI diesel engines to improve their efficiency.

After two decades of constant growth, light truck market share has been relatively stable from 2002 through 2009. Preliminary MY2009 values suggest that Honda will continue to have the lowest fleetwide CO 2 emissions (and highest fuel economy), followed closely by Hyundai-Kia and Toyota.

The two body styles parallel the pair of H2 versions sold from 2002 to 2009, when Hummer was one of eight brands offered by GM. The name isn’t its own brand; the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will be sold as a model line within the GMC luxury truck brand.
