Since I'm still waiting on parts from ElectroAuto, I decided to take the plunge and do some extensive research on Lead-Acid battery technology. Given that I'm using lead-acid technology, one of the big challenges is knowing just how much charge is left in the batteries so I don't run them down below 20% SOC (or state-of-charge).

An older drag-racing cycle called FrankenDragon based on lead-acid technology. I hope to have my car ready for that event, not necessarily to race it, but just to share the technology. Here is the White Zombie waiting in line for it's first warmup. Thanks to my friends Ruth and Joe for coming out and hanging with me during the event.

I've given several people at work rides to show them the technology and everyone has been very supportive. Ken Hall (makes PakTrakr) said that I could extend the cables as far as necessary, so I grabbed some 4-wire cable and will be extending things soon. Next up: More commuting and checking out PakTrakr.

I suspect that I won't actually use these batteries in the 914 EV, but this research will help me understand battery technology better and perhaps give me some backup batteries in case one or two original cells go out. They also started around 7.65 floating voltage so maybe I'll try to revive those too if this one shows promise.

He's currently working on upgrading his battery balancer (see link at right) to handle a wider range of battery technologies and applications. Lee Hart, an EV guru on battery maintenance and equalization, has graciously e-mailed with me regarding the best way to equalize batteries.
