Most readers wouldn’t be familiar with the Luxgen brand. That’s because it’s based in Taiwan and currently only has two models to its name, the Luxgen 7 MPV and Luxgen 7 SUV, both of which are sold in just a few countries in Asia. However, Luxgen is steaming ahead with the launch of its third model, a new all-electric version of its Luxgen 7 MPV that the company is claiming is the first of its kind.

Developed in collaboration with AC Propulsion, the new Luxgen 7 MPV EV is powered by a 240 horsepower AC induction motor with 195 pound-feet of torque on tap. According to its maker, the vehicle is able to accelerate from 0-62 mph in a very reasonable 8.2 seconds and reach a top speed of about 90 mph. Best of all, its lithium-ion battery packs offers a claimed 200 mile range on a single charge with moderate driving.

Some of the technology included in the vehicle is a new power management and transformation center, which integrates the induction motor, charger, battery management system, and the ability to convert kinetic energy into electricity via a regenerative braking system. Additionally, the car’s lithium-ion battery pack also discharge excess electricity back into the power grid to balance electricity utilization during peak and off-peak times.

Inside, there’s plenty of luxurious items such as leather trim and a cool onboard computer system called Think+, which offers video and audio entertainment, telecommunication, GPS navigation, and vehicle information.

Sadly, there are no plans to being the vehicle over to the U.S. in the immediate future but we can still hope.
