It's September, which means a new auto-show season is getting underway once again.

The annual parade of new concept and production models begins next week at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and there are a few green models that will be worth a look.

Frankfurt is the home event for the German manufacturers, and they're expected to be out in force.

But the show is also very large overall (12 halls!), so there should be more than a few interesting new cars from other European, Asian, and U.S. manufacturers.

These are the green cars and concepts already confirmed for Frankfurt. Press days for the show begin September 15, so watch this space for additional updates.

This all-electric Audi concept is expected to preview the production Q6 e-tron, an electric version of the German carmaker's upcoming SUV "coupe" due in 2018.

Notable styling elements include a low, coupe-like roofline, as well as adjustable aerodynamic elements, and an enclosed underbody, to help lower the coefficient of drag.

The interior includes seating for four, with a lithium-ion battery pack located under the floor and within the wheelbase.

The powertrain includes three electric motors, with one powering the front axle, and two powering the rear axle. Audi has said the production electric Q6 will have a range of 310 miles on the European testing cycle, which should work out to about 240 miles on the U.S. EPA cycle.

At Frankfurt, BMW will formally unveil two plug-in hybrid models it had previously hinted at.

The first is the 330e, a plug-in version of the 3 Series sedan that was first announced as part of a mid-cycle refresh of the small sedan earlier this year. It will use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with an electric motor integrated with an eights-speed automatic transmission.

Previewed by a prototype vehicle earlier this summer, the 225xe is based on the 2 Series Active Tourer hatchback sold in Europe. That prototype used a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine to drive the front wheels, and an electric motor to drive the rear wheels for a "through the road" all-wheel drive system.

The 330e sedan will be sold in the U.S. at some point, but the 225xe hatchback probably won't make it to our shores.

Borgward plug-in hybrid SUV

Germany's Borgward has remained dormant for decades, but its stewards are planning a comeback with an all-new plug-in hybrid SUV.

Borgward's return is the result of a partnership between Christian Borgward--grandson of founder Carl F.W. Borgward--in partnership with Chinese industrial firm Foton.

Foton is expected to develop the vehicle's plug-in hybrid powertrain, with details presumably to be revealed during the Frankfurt show.

Borgward will primarily focus on the Chinese market, but may expand sales to other regions and add more models in the future.

Previewed by a thinly-disguised concept version in 2013, the 2017 Infiniti Q30 will be the Nissan luxury brand's first compact model.

The Q30 is based on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class "four-door coupe," and the A-Class hatchback sold in Europe.

Its standard powertrain will consist of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and seven-speed automatic transmission, echoing the Mercedes models.

And just as Mercedes offers the GLA-Class crossover, Infiniti is expected to launch a QX30 crossover variant sometime after the regular Q30 hatchback goes on sale.

An updated Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid with the refreshed styling that debuted for the rest of the Outlander lineup at the 2015 New York Auto Show is also expected to appear in Frankfurt.

In addition to exterior and interior styling changes, Mitsubishi claims to have made numerous refinements, improving ride quality, performance and efficiency.

The powertrain still consists of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, with two electric motors and a 12-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.

Mitsubishi will also roll out the "vehicle-to-home (V2H)" system it already offers in Japan for Europe. This allows the car's battery pack to supply power to a home.

After multiple delays, the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid will finally arrive in U.S. showrooms in May 2016, reports say.

Peugeot Fractal concept

The Peugeot Fractal is a two-door electric car built primarily to demonstrate future audio technology, and 3D-printed construction.

One electric motor powers each axle, with electricity supplied by a 30-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.

On the inside, about 80 percent of interior trim parts were 3D printed, Peugeot says.

The Fractal also features a prototype "9.1.2" surround-sound system, which can send bass tones through the seats, for a more intense experience.

Showing off new technology is the primary function of this concept, which likely won't reach production.
