General Motors will debut its two-mode plug-in hybrid technology—originally intended to appear first in a Saturn VUE, prior to that brand’s sale—in a new Buick crossover vehicle in 2011. The Buick plug-in hybrid will use the same manganese-spinel based chemistry and polymer battery cells as the Volt.

Results of an earlier simulation study of capacitor sizing for the system shows that a 75-100 Whr capacitor bank is appropriate for a Saturn VUE-sized PHEV. Gold Peak USA is supplying prototype LiMnO 2 polymer batteries. Reduced-cost EDLCs, through capacitor construction that reduces labor cost (machine assembled with fewer parts).

Part of the Ford Mustang GT RTD body is made of flax fiber-reinforced linseed-acrylate, which is a high-performance composite made of natural fibers embedded in a resin from the same plants (flax and linseed).
