Though widely thought of as the ultimate green car, the 2010 Toyota Prius is facing criticism over just how green it is. The controversy centres on its use of a nickel metal hydride battery. The Prius uses a lot of fossil fuels during its hybrid battery development and now critics are calling for Toyota to correct its green statements.

PHEVs Going International: Europe's Avere Conference
The conference included several presentations on plug-in hybrids by researchers from around the world, as well as a plug-in hybrid roundtable hosted by Ron Gremban of CalCars, who was the technical lead for the first PHEV conversion of a Toyota Prius in 2004. Altairnano and Electro Energy to Partner on Lithium-Ion Batteries
Electro Energy is currently working with CalCars on a custom prototype battery pack based on the bi-polar NiMH batteries for use in CalCars's Prius+ plug-in hybrid testbed. Its Colorado Springs operation supplies aerospace-grade high quality nickel cadmium batteries and components for satellites, aircraft and other specialty applications.
