2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6: Between a brief drive in New Mexico and a longer loan, I found myself enjoying this EV. Honorable mentions: Toyota Supra manual, Toyota Prius, BMW 330i, Cadillac CT4 Blackwing, Kia EV6 GT, Chevrolet Trax Activ. Toyota Prius: The Prius has always been a car for people who don’t like cars and I’ve never liked them.

Japan was a distant second with the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime PHEVs from Toyota accounting for a majority of the sales. Mexico was in third place due to solid sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E which is made in the Cuautitlán Assembly plant in Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico. of EVs sold in the 1H were assembled in the US.

What is a surprise to us, was the rebound in sales of the Prius Prime, which was up 128% YOY. And as you can see from the chart below, the the Prius is heading toward 60% of its sales being for the Prime PHEV version. The second key trend is the solid first-year sales of both the Ford Mustang Mach-E (27,140) and Volkswagen ID.4

This is 8 MPGe more than the Chevrolet Volt and 13 MPGe more than the projected efficiency of the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid model, Ford noted. Fusion will be produced at Ford’s Hermosillo, Mexico, manufacturing facility, soon adding production at AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich.
