The first 2015 Kia Soul EV electric cars won't reach U.S. dealers until sometime between July and September, and then only in selected regions (for which read "California").
But the company has already started some lowkey marketing, with yesterday's release of a YouTube video titled, "Recharge Your Soul."

The 90-second clip shows the various ways people relax, and suggests that driving the all-electric Soul EV can be part of that restorative process.

It specifically shows a pretty young woman plugging the charging cord into the port behind a sliding panel where the grille was on conventional Souls, making the point that it's easy to do.
And it also shows that you can fit four people into a Soul EV--all of them, of course, rocking out to the latest music.
It also keeps the environmental message to a minimum--the eco-friendly interior materials are mentioned before a single "Zero Emissions" tag hovering over the non-existent tailpipe--and focuses on creating an image of fun and coolness for the electric version of the popular Soul tall wagon.

It also mentions a range of 200 kilometers (124 miles), though we suspect that will come in at an EPA rating of 80 to 100 miles.
The 2015 Kia Soul EV was introduced at last month's Chicago Auto Show, and stores its energy in an air-cooled 27-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack mounted under the car's floor.

The front wheels are powered by an 81-kilowatt (109-horsepower) liquid-cooled electric motor producing 210 lb-ft of torque. Kia quotes an acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph of less than 12 seconds, with the top speed limited to 90 mph.
The company hopes to offer the Soul EV in California and Oregon, plus a few Eastern states where electric cars already sell well--New York, New Jersey, and Maryland among them.
