Late last year, the government of Ireland set a target of 10% of all vehicles in the transport fleet to be powered by electricity by 2020. A €1 million project by Sustainable Energy Ireland to research, develop and demonstrate of vehicles nationally. This will represent some 250,000 cars on Irish roads over the next 12 years.

The Irish Government; the ESB, Ireland’s largest electricity utility; and the Renault-Nissan Alliance announced a comprehensive partnership to position Ireland as a European leader in electric transport. Irish buyers of electric vehicles will be exempt from Vehicle Registration Tax. for a pilot project in Ireland.

The 10-tonne truck is the largest pure electric vehicle on the road in Ireland. In January 2009, the government of Ireland announced a target of 10% of all vehicles to be powered by electricity by 2020. Designed for city and town center use, the Smith Newton is powered by an 80 kWh Li-ion battery pack and a 120 kW electric motor.

Norway has encouraged to switch to zero-emission vehicles by removing taxes that are applicable to combustion engine vehicles. Norway’s EV concentration reached as high as 80% in 2021, according to Reuters. Industry experts in Norway believe the figure could climb even higher this year. Norway was most favorable of the Model 3 as well.
