Minnesota has become the latest state to adopt California clean car standards; the new standards were finalized by a notice in the state register on Monday. Just before Volvo continues its all-electric shift with the XC90-sized EX90 EV , it’s smoothed out its popular plug-in hybrid powertrain in the XC90. The latest plug-in hybrid powertrain in the XC90 features a ‘B’ mode for braking, which Volvo calls “one-pedal drive,” as it does with its electric cars.

R epresentative Frank Hornstein reports that House File 3718 has passed, and that Minnesota is the first state to join the push for plug-in hybrids. A task force has been created from business, government and utility representatives to develop a plan to build the cars in Minnesota.

States currently covered by the new tool are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin.

A US-wide county-level study comparing lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from several light-duty passenger gasoline and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) has found that PEVs can have larger or smaller carbon footprints than gasoline vehicles depending on regional factors and the specific vehicle models being compared.
