We know what the all-new 2015 Honda Fit hatchback will look like; that car was unveiled in Japan last July, and then went on sale in September there.
But have we now seen what the sedan model of the 2015 Fit will look like as well?
Yesterday, Honda Cars India unveiled the latest version of the Honda City, a subcompact sedan sold in developing markets for many years now.
And it's entirely possible that this car, or a version of it modified to meet North American safety and performance requirements, will be the new Honda Fit sedan to be launched next year.
2015 Honda Fit Hybrid (Japanese model)
Honda said in its release that the new City sedan model will eventually be built and sold in more than 60 markets worldwide. To date, the Fit subcompact has been sold only as a hatchback in North America, starting in 2007.
The 2015 Honda Fit will appear next Spring when Honda's Mexican assembly plant starts producing several new subcompact models.
A new generation of the familiar Fit hatchback will be followed by a Fit four-door sedan, and also a subcompact crossover which we saw last week as the Honda Vezel at the Tokyo Motor Show (though it may be renamed for North America).
Last year, we learned that the 2015 Honda Fit will be fitted with a 1.5-liter direct-injected four-cylinder engine. It will be paired with Honda's new continuously variable transmission (CVT), which replaces the five-speed automatic transmission now offered on Fits through the 2013 model year. (There will be no 2014 Fit.)
Company executive Toshihiko Nonaka said last week that the 2015 Honda Fit will earn a 36-mpg combined gas mileage rating. He didn't specify a body style, however, so that number could apply to the five-door hatchback or to the (probably more aerodynamic) four-door sedan.
