Power Grid first-ever EV charging station in Meghalaya

The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has announced that it has installed its first-ever Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) in the state of Meghalaya at its office complex at Lapalang, Shillong. The electric vehicle charging station is being developed under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) & Electric Vehicles (FAME) India Scheme Phase-II. Under the FAME II scheme, the POWERGRID will be developing 11 EVCS in Shillong city of which 5 will be Public EVCS and 6 at government establishments. This station will have four 15 kW DC-001 Chargers and one 100 kW CCS-2/CHAdeMO Charger (dual gun) and makes it 66 charging points in Shillong city.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for four locations which include POWERGRID Office Complex at Lapalang, MTC Ware House at Demthring, MTC Parking Lot at Police Bazar and Polo Parking Lot at Polo out of 11 locations.

It developed itself as one of the market leaders in the EVCS business and has its presence in major cities of India like Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Gurugram and Kochi. It has presently 172,154 km of transmission lines, 262 Sub-stations and more than 446,940 MVA of transformation capacity.

BHEL 

Recently, the Delhi-Chandigarh Highway has become the first eco-friendly highway in India. Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) under the FAME-1 (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) & Electric Vehicles in India) scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries has installed Solar-based Electric Vehicle Charging stations (SEVCs). The company inaugurated the state-of-the-art charging station at Karna Lake Resort.

The EV charging station is strategically located at the midpoint of the Delhi-Chandigarh highway and can charge all types of electric cars. In another charging station initiative, the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) inaugurated a new public electric vehicle charging station at a public parking lot in Dadar.

Meghalaya EV policy 2021

To encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, the Government Transport Department of Meghalaya has issued a dedicated EV policy ‘Meghalaya Electric vehicle Policy, 2021.’ It targets 15% of electric vehicles penetration by 2025. The policy will come into effect from April 1 and will be in operation and valid for 5 years.

As per the notification from the Meghalaya Government, as of October 2020, Meghalaya accounts for only 0.002% of the electric vehicles sold in India and total EVs in the State account for only 0.001% of the total vehicles registered in the State.
