While people can purchase neighborhood electric vehicles today for about $10K, they only have a top speed of 35 miles an hour or so, essentially glorified golf-carts. The Saturn came up a distant second, but everyone agreed that the Civic was the best.

The brand died in 2009 as GM declared bankruptcy, restructured with US government backing, and jettisoned not only Hummer but also Pontiac, Saab and Saturn. Before Tesla, they were seen as nerdy golf carts, far from usable as “real cars.”

Out in the desert as part of Burning Man , our encampment, Snow Koan Solar, is setting up a solar photovoltaic EV Charging Station (at 7:30 and Desert) for electric scooters, golf carts, sofas and barstools. Contracts for lithium batteries for the plug-in hybrid Saturn Vue and the Chevrolet Volt have received much press.

They only have that many models because they use the same chassis and drivetrain to build 3 different cars, one branded as a Chevy, the next a Pontiac, then a Saturn, etc. So my Saturn SC1 does the job great I am getting 35-38 miles on the Hwy and with over 232,000 miles and runs like a champ. The first VCRs were well over a $1000.00
