If you just set aside the fantasy goal of an electric car with the same or better performance than an ICE powered car then we could build utilitarian short range EVs now, and could have been doing this coninually since 1900 with lead-acid batteries. I am more reminded of Segway, or that GM thing that Segway helped them build.

But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. It isa fundamental change in direction for GM. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. GM is developing more fuel-efficient vehicles. Thats short-sighted.
