The US government’s General Services Administration (GSA) this summer took delivery of the first of more than 5,600 hybrid vehicles ordered earlier this year, and will make the vehicles—almost all of which are Ford Fusion hybrids—available to various federal agencies under GSA lease agreements as they are delivered.

Ford might need to upsize their trophy case for all the awards the new Fusion is winning. Just two weeks ago, the Fusion was awarded Motor Trend's golden calipers as the 2010 Car of the Year, beating out the Honda Insight, the Lexus HS 250h, and the Toyota Prius, among numerous others.

As an example, the UCS “Hybrid Scorecard” gives both the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid a high “hybrid value” rating. The Honda Civic Hybrid has more than $3,000 worth of forced features, while the Ford Fusion Hybrid includes nearly $4,000 worth, according to UCS.

Reported sales of hybrids in the US reported by Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM and Nissan dropped 45.5% year-on-year in April to 21,735, despite full month sales for the new Honda Insight and the Ford Fusion and Milan hybrids. Honda sold 3,361 Civic Hybrids in April, down 22.3% of all Fusion and Milan sales in April.
