Now reported widely around the web, Fisker Automotive seems to be near a deal to acquire General Motor's Boxwood Road assembly plant in Wilmington, DE, where GM produced the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice. GM is discontinuing both the Saturn and Pontiac brands. Fisker Automotive intends to build their next hybrid electric.

During this same time GM created Saturn , a totally new brand, which arrived in 1990 with its own showrooms, advertising and vehicles. For our discussion, Saturn dealers were the delivery and service point for GM’s aborted first electric car, the EV1. Some people (by design) probably never knew it was a GM brand.

I haven’t heard about them since (though the former Saturn plant in the area is slated for Fisker ) but the image stuck with me. A little googling revealed that the local Chrysler plant had recently closed, and these folks were hoping to see it re-opened and used to build a new generation of electric cars.

They only have that many models because they use the same chassis and drivetrain to build 3 different cars, one branded as a Chevy, the next a Pontiac, then a Saturn, etc. So my Saturn SC1 does the job great I am getting 35-38 miles on the Hwy and with over 232,000 miles and runs like a champ. Fisker is a good example.
