A new study by a team from Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering has found that even large increases in lithium prices are unlikely to increase significantly the cost of batteries or battery packs for end users such as vehicle manufactures or consumers—although some manufacturers may see reduced profit margins. The study comes against the backdrop of a more than doubling of global lithium prices over the last 6 months.

At the Beijing Motor Show, Dongfeng Citroën unveiled an electric version of the C-Elysée—its best-selling vehicle in China, with 90,000 sales in 2015. Scheduled for launch in China in 2017, this model reflects Dongfeng Citroën’s ambitions to be a key player in electric vehicles for the Chinese public. Featuring a lithium-ion battery, E-Elysée has a range of up to 250 km (155 miles) and can be fast-charged in just 30 minutes (6.5 hours in normal charging mode).

At a press roundtable held at the Auto China 2016, Renault-Nissan Alliance CEO Carlos Ghosn observed that both Nissan and Renault had what he called “high-spec” electric vehicle offers in China: the Venucia for Nissan, and the coming Freelance Electric by Renault. In its Q1 2016 letter to shareholders, Tesla affirmed its plan to deliver 80,000 to 90,000 vehicles in 2016.
