Google Maps has acquired mapping analytics startup Urban Engines. Urban Engines, two of whose four co-founders were originally at Google, has developed a mapping, visualization, analytics, and optimization platform that uses the information from the billions of movement data points each day to provide a better understanding of how traffic flows change throughout the day and over time.

Ilika to work with Johnson Matthey on 3-year project to develop protected anodes for Li-S batteries

UK-based materials company Ilika, also a developer of solid-state batteries, is taking part in a three-year project to develop protected anodes for lithium sulfur batteries, led by Johnson Matthey Plc and supported by Innovate UK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). £365,133 (US$475,000) of the grant will be used to fund project activities at Ilika.

After reaching an all-time high in 2015, consumers’ interest in autonomous driving systems has fallen in 2016, reflecting hesitance about the reliance of self-driving technology, according to a recent survey from the In-Vehicle UX (IVX) group at Strategy Analytics. Strategy Analytics surveyed consumers in the US, Western Europe, and China regarding their interest and willingness to pay for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Mercedes-Benz Vans launches “Startup adVANce” competition for partners for future transport solutions

With “Startup adVANce”, a large-scale startup partnership challenge, Mercedes-Benz Vans is starting its search for intelligent solutions relating to the transport of goods and passengers.
