Global MRV , a provider of portable emissions measurement systems (PEMS), has introduced the first on-board permanently embedded Micro PEMS that reports all regulated vehicle emissions and performance system data all the time. Called Firefly, the PEMS provides continuous analysis of diesel or internal combustion engine emissions. The patented Firefly unit is 11-inches long by 11-inches wide and 3-inches high, and weighs seven pounds (3.2 kg).

Westport Innovations Inc. and Gazprom of Russia’s subsidiary Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo (Gazprom) have signed a market development agreement focused on expanding the use of natural gas vehicles in Russia and the localization of manufacturing of Westport’s Emer brand natural gas products. Gazprom has 200 existing compressed natural gas (CNG) stations, with plans to invest in existing station upgrades and new station construction to meet a target of about 500 fuelling stations by 2020.

Scania has given the green light to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) being used to power its Euro 6 range, provided the fuel used meets technical specification TS15940. Vehicles using HVO—which chemically mimics fossil-fuel-based diesel—can under optimal condition achieve up to a 90% reduction in CO 2 emissions.
