Utah Transits Authority adding 5 battery-electric New Flyer buses to fleet

UTA and the University of Utah received a $5.4-million Low-No grant from the US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to purchase five New Flyer battery-electric buses. ( Earlier post.) Three of these will be used on route 2 in Salt Lake City and two that will serve the University of Utah campus (also in Salt Lake City). Each all-electric bus in service with UTA will save the equivalent of 6,000 gallons of diesel fuel per year.

Ford recycles up to 20M lbs of aluminum per month in closed-loop system; equivalent to 30K F-150 bodies

Ford recycles as much as 20 million pounds (10,000 short tons, 9 million kg) of aluminum stamping scrap per month using the closed-loop system at Dearborn Truck Plant, which builds F-150. That amount is the equivalent of more than 30,000 F-150 bodies in the largest configuration—a SuperCrew body including doors, plus hood, tailgate and 6.5-foot cargo box.

IMO agrees mandatory system for collecting ships’ fuel consumption data

The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has approved mandatory requirements for ships to record and report their fuel consumption. IMO said that the move sends a clear signal about its commitment to climate change mitigation. The mandatory data collection system is intended to be the first in a three-step process in which analysis of the data collected would provide the basis for a policy debate in the MEPC.

Volkswagen AG decides not to release interim report on diesel emissions investigation; cites current negotiations with US authorities

On Friday, Volkswagen AG announced that the Supervisory Board and the Management Board of Volkswagen have decided not to release the interim results of the investigation into the diesel emission cheating as originally planned. Disclosure of interim results at this point in time would “present unacceptable risks for Volkswagen” they company said and, therefore, cannot take place now.
