A new study by a team from the University of Edinburgh and independent engineering company INNAS BV has found that, when factoring in the additional weight and non-exhaust PM factors, total PM 10 emissions from electric vehicles (EVs) are equal to those of modern internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs). Non-exhaust PM factors include tire wear, brake wear, road surface wear and resuspension of road dust.

The 2017 Subaru Forester compact crossover enters the new model year with some small updates that include a slight increase in fuel economy. Volkswagen released a few teaser images for the Beijing Concept luxury SUV to be revealed at the Beijing auto show next week. The vehicle—which Volkswagen says previews its direction with SUVs—demonstrates both the continued digitalization of the automobile, as well as a performance-oriented plug-in hybrid powertrain. The plug-in-hybrid powertrain delivers 376 hp total output and 516 lb-ft (700 N·m) of torque, with an all-electric range of up to 50 km (31 miles).

GKN Driveline, which works as a development partner on all-wheel drive and plug-in hybrid systems for Volvo Cars, is producing an eAxle system for the new Volvo S90 plug-in hybrid. ( Earlier post.) The eAxle system fits in the same space as a standard rear drive module, enabling Volvo Cars to offer customers a plug-in hybrid as a simple, high-performance upgrade.
