Researchers at Nanjing Tech University in China have developed a new pathway for the production of liquid hydrocarbon fuels from lignocellulose. The new Nanjing Tech process uses acetoin—a novel C 4 platform molecule derived from new ABE (acetoin–butanol–ethanol)-type fermentation via metabolic engineering—as a bio-based building block for the production of the liquid hydrocarbon fuels.

A study by scientists at NYU Langone Medical Center estimates that 3.32% of pre-term births (PTBs, birth at 2.5 air pollution. Attributable PTBs cost were estimated at $4.33 billion. The sum includes $760 million spent on prolonged hospital stays and long-term use of medications, as well as $3.57 billion in lost economic productivity due to physical and mental disabilities associated with preterm birth.

China's BYD eked out a global victory in electric-car sales last year, selling more plug-in cars than BMW, General Motors, Nissan, Renault, or Tesla. The company delivered nearly 62,000 battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles last year, almost entirely in China. Now, the company projects that it may be able to sell close to three times that.

Waze, the popular “connected driver” app that combines navigation with driver contributions on traffic, accidents and other road data, is adding a speed limit feature that will automatically notify drivers when they are exceeding the speed limit.
