The Geneva Motor Show is the biggest European car event on the calendar and is traditionally the place a large number of manufacturers unveil their latest models. 2019 is no exception.

Geneva Motor Show 2019 branding

So which brands will be there this year, and what will be on their stands? We checked out the key cars that’ll be on show when the doors for the 89th International Motor Show open on 7 March.

Audi

Audi e-tron

Following the launch of its all-electric e-tron, Audi is set to reveal a smaller electric SUV – probably in concept form – that’ll sit beneath the larger car. We don’t know much about it at this stage, but expect it to be around the same size as the Q3 and borrow the new MEB platform that’ll also underpin VW’s I.D. range.

BMW

BMW 7 Series 2019 grille

The new BMW 7 Series will be on show for the first time in Geneva, although it’s already been revealed in picture form. Ushering in a new hybrid option, a larger front grille and improved interior tech, it’s BMW’s alternative to the latest Audi A8 and Mercedes S-Class Saloon.

Honda

Honda e Prototype front

We seem to have been saying that the Tesla Model 3 will be the car that’ll democratise the electric segment forever, but now small, affordable EVs are coming thick and fast from a host of established manufacturers. Honda’s effort is the e Prototype.

It was revealed in concept form at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the pic you see above is a near-production-ready look at the vehicle which will deliver a range of over 124 miles and a fast charge of 80% in 30 minutes.

Hyundai

Hyundai will be using the event to show off the expanded range of choices for its SUVs.

Besides adding a new 48-volt hybrid powertrain to their range, customers will also soon be able to choose a dynamic new specification with motorsport-influenced details inside and out. The new offering – the first Hyundai SUV with this performance treatment – is promising to be the start of much more to come.

Jeep

A selection of special edition Jeep models, including the new “S” range created to enhance the sporty appeal of the brand will be on show at the Geneva Motor Show.

The star of the show for Jeep looks to be the debut of the unstoppable Cherokee Trailhawk which completes the refreshed specialised off-road Trailhawk range.

Kia

Kia electric concept car

Kia will unveil its bold new all-electric concept car at the show, promising a visual embodiment of the company’s desire to move forward in the exciting world of electrification.

“We imagined designing an all-electric car that not only answered consumer concerns around range, performance, recharging networks and driving dynamism, but one that also gave you goose bumps when you looked at it,” stated Gregory Guillaume, Vice President of Design for Kia Motors Europe.

Mazda

Mazda Geneva 2019

A new Mazda compact SUV will be revealed at the show. Little is known so far but it will feature a more mature design compared to the CX-3 and CX-5, as well as Mazda’s new-generation Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture.

The powertrain lineup will also showcase the latest Skyactiv engines, including Mazda’s revolutionary SPCCI (Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition) technology, which has a unique combustion method combining the free-revving performance of a petrol engine with the superior response of a diesel.

The Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition will also be getting its European premiere, along with the all-new Mazda3 saloon

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz CLA 2019 driving

Following the reveal of the CLA at the CES in America, we expect the Shooting Brake version will be on show at Geneva. Expect it to look much like the saloon pictured above at the front, but with a more practical estate-like rear end.

On the concept car front, the Concept EQV is also on display to the world public for the first time. This is the world's first SUV in the premium segment with purely battery-electric drive.

Mercedes is due to launch a number of new cars this year, and other debuts will include a facelifted GLC and V-Class people carrier.

Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi concept Geneva 2019

Mitsubishi has confirmed it will be unveiling a new concept at Geneva. The Engelberg Tourer (pictured above) is set to show off future design elements we could see on the brand’s upcoming SUVs.

Also at the event, the 2020 Mitsubishi ASX compact SUV will make its global debut at the show while the new Mitsubishi L200 one-tonne pick-up will have its first showing in Europe.

Polestar

Polestar 2 teaser

Polestar’s supercar-beating hybrid coupe – the Polestar 1 – has been public knowledge for a while now, but we can expect to see the arrival of the Polestar 2 at this year’s show. Rather than an immensely powerful luxury coupe, expect it to be a fully electric saloon car that’ll be capable of more than 300 miles on a single charge. It'll be revealed ahead of the show on 27 February.

Porsche

Porsche 911 Cabriolet 2019

Yes, the pictures you see above really are a new Porsche. We all know the 911 is about evolutionary design rather than revolutionary changes, and the new 992 generation epitomises this philosophy. Expect to see both the Coupe and Cabriolet versions on show at the Porsche stand.

Renault

2019 Renault Clio front

The Renault Clio is the second most popular car in Europe, and the French brand will be hoping the supermini will hang on to this accolade with the help of the all-new fifth-gen iteration. With a much-improved interior, stylish looks borrowed from the larger Megane and a hybrid version set to launch in 2020, we reckon it might just pull it off. Here’s what we know about the Clio so far.

Skoda

Skoda Kamiq badge

Skoda has been on a roll with its SUVs recently, and has now turned its attention to creating a rival for the Seat Arona and upcoming VW T-Cross. It’s called the Kamiq and, mainly because it sits on the same platform as those aforementioned rivals, it should prove to a hit.

Toyota

Toyota Supra

Unless you’ve been living on the moon, you’ll know by now that there’s a new Toyota Supra on the way. Featuring a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine producing 335bhp, it’s capable of getting from rest to 62mph in 4.3 seconds. Borrowing parts from the latest Z4, it’ll cost from £52,695 – quite a bit more than the BMW then. Will it prove as iconic as the original?

Anything else?

A motor show wouldn’t be a motor show without a healthy smattering of concepts and special editions.  Two worthy of mention that we know will be in Geneva are from Bentley and Citroen. What do they have in common? Well, they’re both celebrating their centenary.

The Bentley is set to be based on the latest Continental GT and take inspiration from one of its most iconic race cars. Meanwhile, Citroen will be producing a concept to celebrate its 100 years. If its past efforts are anything to go by, it could be pretty off the wall.

VW will likely add a buggy to its ever-growing list of ID models, too.

When and where?

The motor show itself kicks off on 7 March and runs until 17 March. If you’re interested in going along, it’s taking place at the Palexpo complex in Geneva. You can find out more info here or alternatively, check out our guide of what it’s really like to go to a motor show.
