The Volkswagen diesel settlement for 2.0-liter TDI cars received final approval from a federal judge earlier this week.

That means VW is now able to send out buyback offers to owners of the 475,000 affected vehicles.

But some dealers aren't willing to wait to start enticing customers back into showrooms.

DON'T MISS: Final VW diesel settlement signed; buyback offers to start soon

At least one Volkswagen dealer is offering deals to TDI owners covered by the settlement even before they've completed the buyback process.

That's the pitch made in an e-mail sent by a dealer to a Volkswagen diesel owner in Oregon.

It encourages the owner to "upgrade" to a 2016 or 2017 VW model, and mentions some pretty hefty incentives.

Those include "up to $13,000 off MSRP" on leftover 2016 models, and 0-percent APR financing on "select models."

Trading in a car now would mean switching from diesel to gasoline, since Volkswagen's 2016 TDI models never received EPA certification.

The carmaker is not expected to return to selling large numbers of diesel vehicles in the U.S., as it did before the emissions scandal.

The e-mail also includes a "Volkswagen TDI Settlement FAQ," although it notes that Volkswagen itself will handle most of the buyback process, not dealers.

Remarkably, the final question asks whether owners looking to buy a new VW after completing the buyback process should be concerned about available inventory.

The response is essentially, yes, you'd better come right down before they're all gone.

VW sales have fallen considerably over the past year, something hinted at by the incentives offered earlier in the e-mail.

But that's probably not something dealers want customers to consider as they decide when to buy new cars and whether another Volkswagen is the right choice.

VW itself has upped its incentives in recent months to help boost sales.

It hasn't launched a corporate incentive program tied to the diesel settlement, though it's entirely possible it might do so in the future.

That hasn't stopped other makers from doing so. Hoping to attract new customers, Hyundai is offering special pricing to VW TDI owners who qualify for the settlement.

General Motors has also indicated that it will target VW TDI owners with advertising for its new Chevrolet Cruze diesel compact sedan and hatchback when they go on sale next spring.
