A/C for a VW conversion

by C.O. Jones

I intend converting a VW sedan to electric, but live in a hot climate. Is it possible/practical to have A/C. Also how much will the range be reduced when running it? Or conversely what % more batteries will be needed?

Hi, C.O. -
I took your question to Green Shed Conversions, and they said it depends on the model year, but..."if the VW has good original AC then plan for about a 25% loss for the use of AC.

VW’s are a great donor vehicle! They convert well and easily."

If your donor car does not have original AC, then Green Shed sells the MasterFlux air conditioning system for electric cars, and also offers EV conversion consulting services so if you run into a snag and you can't figure it out on your own, you can hire them for one-on-one advising.

Hope this helps!
