Researchers from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are working on a city bus platoon for Munich. In platooning, vehicles are connected to each other via an “electronic tow bar”, and the platoon can thus be easily split and reconnected. These platoons can be adapted as required to meet specific traffic needs.

The US Army’s Project Manager Transportation Systems (PM TS), part of Program Executive Office for Combat Support & Combat Service Support (PEO CS&CSS), has partnered with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to prototype a hybrid conversion kit for tactical vehicles. The collaboration between DIU and PEO CS&CSS is proving to be invaluable.

Within the KliMEA project, researchers at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will study drive systems of heavy duty vehicles and fuel cell technology to find ways how future production of fuel cell components can be adapted to these expected new emissions requirements. In a post on Twitter, Mayor Eliordo Ogena of Koronadal, a small city in the Philippines, announced that the satellite internet system is being used to connect communities from the Blaan Tribe, an indigenous group whose settlements are still in remote locations. At such an age, it is pertinent for them to be connected to the rest of the world.

Audi and the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) are therefore launching a pilot project for chemical recycling as part of the “Industrial Resource Strategies” THINKTANK in order to feed such mixed plastic fractions back into a resource-conserving circular system. We are working on replacing this too with recyclable polyester.

It appears that internet connectivity in commercial airlines is about to get a serious boost. As noted by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk in a recent post on Twitter, talks are now ongoing with commercial airlines about the possibility of utilizing Starlink for in-flight internet connectivity. Low latency ~half gigabit connectivity in the air!
