Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd has set up its first electric vehicle outlet in Chennai. It is the first-of-its-kind facility in Tamil Nadu. This company’s showroom will help the customers to get the complete range of electric vehicles from Piaggio. The company is also looking forward to expanding its EV presence in other markets in Tamil Nadu as well apart from Chennai. Head of commercial vehicle business and EVP of Piaggio India Pvt Ltd Saju Nair said that the brand is delighted to open this showroom. “We are happy to open our first EV exclusive showroom in Tamil Nadu at Chennai. Chennai being a big metro and a major business hub, inter-city transportation business is one of the major economic drivers.”

The outlet was inaugurated by the Minister for Medical and Family Welfare of Tamil Nadu M A Subramanium. He said “With the TN government’s focus on eco-friendly technologies, electric vehicles are going to be of extreme importance in the future. Our EV policy is drawn in order to facilitate multi-fold increase in production and infrastructure development of electric vehicles.”

Piaggio Vehicles had recently partnered with EV fleet operator MoEVing for the induction of electric vehicles.MoEVing aims to add 500 Piaggio Ape’ E-Xtra FX to their existing fleet by 2022. The partnership will help to increase the adoption of electric three-wheelers in India in the last mile transportation segment through the integrated approach of demand aggregation, supply optimisation and connected charging infrastructure.

The Piaggio has recently launched its cargo variant Ape’ E-Xtra FX which has received a great response. The Ape E-Xtra FX gets a bigger 8 kWh Lithium-ion battery to an electric motor with 9.55 kWh/12.8 bhp and 45 Nm output. On a single charge, it can give 90 km and a top speed of 45 kmph.

Piaggio Vehicles last month had announced that it has partnered with Three Wheels United (TWU) a Bengaluru based tech-enabled financier of light electric vehicles. Under this partnership, the TWU will deploy 500 Piaggio Ape’ E-City and Ape’ E-Xtra vehicles across India.

The company’s statement said that the Piaggio Ape’ E-City and Ape’ E-Xtra vehicles across India will jointly work to promote the adoption of electric vehicles. TWU will also facilitate three-wheeler passenger vehicle and cargo vehicle drivers to switch to EVs from old vehicles. It will offer the needed support for the maintenance and servicing of the vehicles.

In July, the Piaggio has made an announcement to launch the Ape electric three-wheeler range in Hyderabad city. The company is offering Ape’s battery-powered range in three variants such as Ape e-City FX, and Ape e-Xtra FX (with fixed electric battery), and Ape e-City (with swappable battery).

Piaggio has also unveiled its all-new One electric scooter ahead of its physical world premiere at the 2021 Beijing auto show on 28 May. One electric scooter is the company’s global development project and is mainly targeted at metropolitan cities around the globe. It will go on sale in European markets from the end of June.
