We noted in December that the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, was working to update standards for the interface between plug-in electric cars and the grid, and planned to agree on a set within months. And for this ecosystem to be robust, there must be commonality, especially when owners are plugging into the electrical grid.

It initiated the start of the "Plug-in Arizona Educational Tour" for educating one AZ County at a time! Interestingly enough, the Automotive Class is "into" the study of hybrids at this time. And of course, now Plug-ins for extra credit! A plug and a pack can make a car a 101 MPG vehicle aided by electricity. !

“Any new technology like the Chevy Volt takes time to become profitable,&# said Jay Friedland, the legislative director for Plug-In America , an electric-car advocacy group. is hoping to launch the Volt in late 2010 with a price tag of about $40,000. About $750 million is needed for near-term Volt development, according to the company.

Now, people are used to cellphone subscription plans and plugging the phone into the wall at night, Mr. Thesen reasoned, so a switch to electric cars would also be manageable. Analysts are sanguine about this kind of thing becoming more common — someday. In effect, cars would be acting like tiny power stations. We will own the battery.
