“The Toyota Prius took over five years to reach break-even and has gone on to be a wild success.&# So the Volt would cost $32,500–not so much more than what people are reportedly paying for the Prius. and Chrysler. Sure, it can handle most commutes on the battery, but who commutes in this? It looks like an Epcot attraction.

Furthermore, changing the battery pack on say a Toyota Prius often costs a fortune, at least in most European countries, so such cars better be VERY cheap, but they’re not. Many of the first Prius hybrids that were released are still running strong on their NiMH batteries after 100,000+ miles.
