Media days for the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show begin next week, which means a new round of production and concept cars is about to be revealed.

So far, it looks like the Los Angeles show will be a little light on hybrids and plug-in electric cars.

But there will still be several fuel-efficient models of note debuting there.

2017 Hyundai Elantra

Previously unveiled in South Korea as the Avante, the next-generation Hyundai Elantra arrives in the U.S. next year as a 2017 model.

Hyundai has said that greater use of high-strength steel in the chassis will result in weight savings compared to the outgoing model.

While a variety of gasoline and diesel powertrains will be offered overseas, expect U.S. models to use 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated and turbocharged four-cylinder engines--possibly with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra should go on sale in the U.S. next year. A hatchback version will likely follow, and perhaps a coupe as well.

Powertrains and styling should mirror the Q30, but additions like added ground clearance will help differentiate Infiniti's new compact crossover from the hatchback.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Following a substantial refit of the Outlander, Mitsubishi will unveil a redesigned version of the smaller Outlander Sport in L.A.

The production model will likely borrow styling from the pair of XR-PHEV plug-in hybrid concepts, as well as the all-electric eX concept unveiled at the recent Tokyo Motor Show.

The Outlander Sport could also be Mitsubishi's next plug-in hybrid crossover.

The Outlander Plug-In Hybrid will finally make it to the U.S. next year, and Mitsubishi has hinted at a second model as part of a larger strategy to build a full lineup of plug-in hybrid utility vehicles.

Subaru Impreza sedan concept

Subaru will unveil a sedan version of the Impreza hatchback concept that debuted at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Both concepts preview the next-generation of Subaru's compact car.

Styling should be similar to the Impreza hatchback concept, indicating Subaru's intention to give the next Impreza a sportier look.

Set to arrive next year as a 2017 model, the Impreza will debut the new modular Subaru Global Platform, which will eventually underpin all Subaru models, except the BRZ sports car.

Like the current Impreza, expect all-wheel drive and a four-cylinder boxer engine to be standard on the new model.
