The environmental impact of replacing 143 million gallons of diesel fuel with RNG is the equivalent of reducing 745,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions—also equal to planting 12 million trees, or removing 158,000 cars off the road, or reducing 260,000 tons of waste that would otherwise be sent to the landfill, the company said.

At the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January, Schaeffler will show the second phase of its concept car that meets 2025 CAFE requirements, including its mild hybridization with a 48-volt system. Upcoming performances will be in Miami on March 4 and Long Beach in April 2015.

The Hertz Corporation, which includes the Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty brands, has expanded of its Green Traveler Collection car rental fleet to include the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid ( earlier post ) in select cities across the US. All of the Green Traveler cars have fuel efficiency ratings starting at 33+ highway mpg.

That push is particularly focused on the trucking routes between the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and the distribution centers of the Inland Empire – which Ontario lies at the heart of. This is too long a trip for most BEV trucks (except one, at least – we’ve seen the Tesla Semi do similar mileage ).

BYD Company Limited, one of China’s fastest growing auto manufacturers, will establish the US headquarters of three separate operating divisions in the City of Los Angeles. Company officials estimate its new offices would create 50 jobs initially with plans to increase its assembly work force to 2,000 employees over the next three years.
