If you want to buy a new 2011 Toyota Prius hybrid these days, you may have to scramble. In auto industry terms, that means "sold out," and dealers are charging higher markups on the few precious Priuses they still have. Supplies are down to 3,000 units, which is less than 10 days' worth of sales. 75,000 coming.

I’m estimating 28,000 as an executive with a leading auto analyst firm confirmed to me privately that their registration estimates for 2021 put the RAV4 Prime and Wrangler 4xe as a toss up. Auto Industry Analyst. I can’t tell you our exact number but if they beat RAV it was very narrow. Flip a coin. Leased mine.

We recognize that this scoreboard has limited value today due to the small number and randomness of the these 9 EVs currently included, but part of our goal is to shine a light on the general lack of transparency in the auto industry when it comes to US EV sales data. New to the scoreboard in Q3 was the Audi e-tron GT.

In May 2008, Toyota saw its Prius hybrid car turn it towards profitability in America and it scrapped plans to build a sport utility truck plant in Tupelo, Mississippi and chose to build a Prius plant there instead. Yet when gas prices tumbled later that year, plans for the Prius plant were shelved.

Three years ago, the magazine Popular Mechanics even wrote an article prodding the auto industry for not building the 100 m.p.g. Not what you think When the wrap finally comes off, though, I think there will be some surprise for anyone who had hopes of rushing out to a dealership to buy their first 100 m.p.g. Yep, a truck.

This is encouraging them to make greener choices and general purchasing patterns are starting to change with all but two of the cars on the top 10 purchase list now saloon (sedan) vehicles and the fourth most popular being the ‘ultimate green car’ the Toyota Prius.
