Ford has into a partnership with Johnson Controls-Saft (JCS) to develop advanced lithium-ion battery system to power Ford’s first production plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) beginning in 2012. Initially the cells will be produced at the supplier’s production facility in France, but the system will be assembled in the United States.

All 21 of Ford’s fleet of plug-in hybrid Escapes eventually will be equipped with the vehicle-to-grid communications technology. This vehicle-to-grid communication technology is an important step in the journey toward the widespread commercialization of electric vehicles. and its parent, Atlanta-based Southern Company.
