Cool cars have always played big parts in movies, and now it's the turn of the Acura NSX Roadster, set to appear in The Avengers.

The roadster version of Acura's hybrid sports car was spotted on set during filming last year, but Acura has now revealed that the NSX Roadster will be used by Tony Stark, played by actor Robert Downey Jr, in the upcoming movie.

The NSX Roadster looks every inch a car suitable for Tony Stark's Iron Man--there's more than a hint of that famous suit about the design.

Though Acura has no solid plans to produce a roadster version of the NSX--the coupe version should appear in 2015--but may use the movie to gauge interest in a possible production run.

Like the hard-topped NSX, the roadster should use Acura's Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system, using a combination of gasoline V6 and three electric motors--sure to make it one of the lowest-emissions sports cars ever.

The NSX will also be able to travel entirely in electric mode, the gasoline engine kicking in to deliver a greater hit of power when required.

The Roadster is just one of the Acuras set to feature in The Avengers, as part of the cutting-edge S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. Other models will include the MDX, ZDX and TL, as well as the all-new 2013 Acura RDX.

The Avengers opens in cinemas from May 4, though more than 130 Acura dealers will host pre-screenings before that date to celebrate the marque's involvement in the film.
