ARPA-E launches $35M ROSIE program to decarbonize domestic iron and steel production

The US Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) announced up to $35 million in funding ( DE-FOA-0003117 ) to support a new program to enable zero-process-emission ironmaking and ultra-low life cycle emissions steelmaking. The iron and steel industry accounts for around 7% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and 11% of global CO 2 emissions and, by 2050, global iron and steel demand is projected to rise as much as 40%.

Volvo Trucks, UMN partner with local fleets for extreme weather field testing of Volvo VNR Electric truck batteries

Volvo Trucks North America is working with the University of Minnesota (UMN) to conduct extreme weather testing for its Class 8 VNR Electric model to analyze the impact of ambient temperature on a truck’s battery life. UMN has teamed up with Murphy Logistics Solutions (Murphy) to test the battery-electric trucks in Minnesota with cold winter temperatures and H-E-B Grocery Company (HEB) in Texas to test during periods of intense summer heat.
