Peugeot has announced an all-electric e-2008 will join the model line-up alongside petrol and diesel powertrains when it launches in early 2020.

The all-new e-2008 SUV will be powered by a 100kW electric motor and 50kWh battery. Offering 136bhp, it will also feature 193 miles of range.

All-electric e-2008

The e-2008 will  be able to reach 80% charge in just 30 minutes via DC rapid charging, while a full charge using conventional 7.4kW and 11kW chargers will take between eight and five hours respectively. Drivers will also be able to take advantage of two forms of energy recovery, with Drive “D” feeling similar to a standard diesel or petrol model, while Brake “B” provides more regenerative braking.

The e-2008 features a range of 193 miles

For those who aren’t ready to make the jump, a 1.2-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine will be available offering 99, 128 and 153bhp in either six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. A 99bhp, 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel will also be available with a six-speed manual.

Slightly longer and lower than the outgoing model, the 2008 is built on Peugeot’s new Common Modular Platform and is 4.3m long, 1.7m wide and 1.54m high. A series of unique styling cues help set the e-2008 SUV apart from its petrol and diesel counterparts including a body-coloured chequered front grille, and some unique vehicle badging.

Peugeot 2008 features a new heads-up display

Available in Active, Allure, GT Line and GT trim levels, the 2008 range is an extension of the current Peugeot design philosophy, with its sharp angles and distinctive looks making it similar to the larger 3008.

Step inside and the 2008 really impresses. Featuring the compact steering wheel and the latest version of the Peugeot 3D i-Cockpit, a new heads-up display projects holograms close to the driver’s eye-line to help improve reaction times. The centre console comes with a 10in colour touchscreen with TomTomTraffic connected 3D Navigation as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

The all-new Peugeot 2008 is slightly bigger than the outgoing model

A variety of autonomous tech is also offered, including adaptive cruise and lane-departure assist, self-parking, automatic emergency braking and road sign recognition.

David Peel, managing director of Peugeot, said: “The all-new 2008 SUV is the second vehicle introduced into the Peugeot range where the customer can choose from a conventional petrol or diesel engine, or a 100% electric variant without compromising on technology, looks or driving sensations […] The all-new 2008 SUV is also another step forward in our commitment of having an electrified version across our entire range by 2023.”
